About Neon Party Lights and ADHD

There is limited scientific evidence to suggest that neon lights have a direct, positive impact, specifically on individuals with ADHD. However, some research indicates that certain lighting conditions can influence focus, attention, and mood for some people with ADHD.

Here’s what we know:

  • Light Sensitivity: Some individuals with ADHD may experience sensitivity to bright or fluorescent lights. In these cases, softer, adjustable lighting like neon signs could be less harsh and create a more comfortable environment.
  • Stimulating Environment: Neon lights can be visually stimulating and engaging, which might help some individuals with ADHD maintain focus and attention in specific settings.
  • Personal Preference: Ultimately, the impact of neon lights will vary depending on individual preferences. Some people with ADHD might find them calming and helpful, while others might find them distracting. Opt for non-neon DIY crafts for your child.

If you’re interested in exploring how lighting might affect ADHD symptoms, consult with healthcare professionals or therapists. They can provide personalized guidance and recommendations based on your needs and sensitivities.

  • I recommend you create a small water bin and toss glow sticks with the lights dimmed low. If the peaceful glowing waters and unafraid allure your child, they will do fine with a small neon glow party. Start small and gradually increase the amount of glowing lights in the room.
  • Book club glow sticks are fun; another option is to use them for story time! I created a book club for my kids; my nephews and only niece were also members!
  • Fun Fact: I was a turtle momma! I adjusted Anthony to neon colors by creating a DIY neon-decorated turtle aquarium tank. He loved to see them swimming on the colorful little rocks. So cute!

Now that we have discussed the potential light sensitivity that may emerge let’s move forward with the neon party ideas!

Get your shades on because it’s looking bright tonight! Woohoo!

Glow-in-the-Dark party ideas glowsticks in water with pipe cleaners, neon party ideas, DIY crafts glow night

Check out this fun idea that my son and I created together. We tried to make something spirally! Instructional images and video link below!

This is a really fun idea for older kids; however, I must say, please be aware of the younger kids because these pipe cleaners do have some pointy edges.

Explain and show the little point to your kids so they can understand it’s for glowing purposes.

Ensure they are all tucked in and not poking out for the older kids (ages 8 and up).

These lights make the water look so peaceful and are used more as a light to make the water glow in exciting colors.

The younger kids will do fine without the colorful pipe cleaner on the glow stick, which will also help prevent them from eating it.

How to create this excellent DIY craft!

  1. Cross two pipe cleaners over each other like this:

2. Interlace the colorful pipes and twist them up!

3. Twist until you achieve this look, then repeat the process, adding on a third pipe cleaner.
