Three Types Of Unique DIY Halloween Candles To Make

With over 11 years of experience in candle-making, I’ve developed a deep passion for Halloween candles and have amassed quite a collection. My experimentation with gel candles, Mod Podge, and Sharpie art has led to some surprising discoveries.

When used correctly, these unique techniques can create beautiful candles that last a lifetime.

The Jack and Sally candle you will see below, a product of my love for The Nightmare Before Christmas, was created using Sharpie art.

This unique piece is a testament to the inspiration that can be drawn from beloved movies.

Anyone with an eye for detail can make these candles, and the characters resemble those from the movie.

My parents did not celebrate Halloween since it is not known in my country, the Dominican Republic.

However, growing up in America, I was surrounded by Halloween everywhere including school festivities and decorations around my town.

I started creating gel candles after I saw a cool youtube tutorial which I will share below.

Halloween Candles: Gel Candles

Gel candles are unique because they last up to 10 hours of burn time. They have a clear appearance that looks like the candle is underwater.

Although I have heard that burning gel candles is terrible, I don’t burn mine.

Instead, I just love to look at them. I use them for decorative purposes

You can place them in various places around your home ranging from the kitchen to your bedrooms.

They look amazing everywhere!

You can create a look that no one has ever seen.

I like to use tiny fall leaves or colorful pipe cleaners and wrap them around the top with a glue gun to hold the look.

Believe it or not, I get most of my candle jars from the dollar store.

They have a wide variety of candle holders and candles that, once you burn the wax down, leave you with a beautiful, clear glass.

You can create various items with gel candles, which is what I love about them.

For the image below, I put one eyeball and skull head in each candle and covered it with gel wax; the results were amazing.

The best part is my kids helped to make them with me!

You can decorate your home by setting up cobwebs on a table and lighting candles for display in your living or dining room.

Another type of candle that is fun to make is Mod Podge candles.

Mod Podge Halloween Candles

I discovered Mod Podge candles while looking for candle-making ideas on YouTube.

I found an awesome tutorial on creating a fall leaf mason jar by Kate Creates.

I purchased 100 fall leaves for just one dollar at my local dollar store, and I’ve been using these leaves for various decorations.

They work wonderfully!

You and your kids will have a great time creating these Halloween candles this fall.

Mod Podge candles are among the most affordable to make because all you need is a mason jar, Mod Podge, brushes, and fake leaves compared to gel wax candles that tend to be a bit pricier.

I was fascinated by how simple it was to create this candle using a mason jar.

I found an old beer mug at my local Goodwill and made a giant fall-themed candle.

It has become one of my favorite candle holders because the color looks beautiful at night. It makes me feel like I’m up north.

The best glue to use is Mod Podge because it lasts practically forever.

My candles have looked the same for almost 10 years now.

No chipping, no leaves falling off, and they look like I made them just yesterday.

I’m amazed how well Mod Podge can hold a design together without harming your skin.

It’s similar to Elmer’s glue in smell and feel.

My fall Mod Podge candles are a family favorite, and I use them every fall season from September to late November.

These Halloween Candles give the house a nice eerie vibe, especially for storytelling.

I have a pack of 100 mini tea light candles. One tea light candle can burn for up to four hours, which means I can use the same candle for many storytelling nights.

You can decorate your candle in various ways, such as a cobweb or spider theme, and seal your creation with Mod Podge.

For example, check out Pinterest.

It’s amazing what you can create when you use items already in your home. Are you ready for the final type and easiest Halloween candle to make?

If you have Sharpies and neon paper, you’ll enjoy making these candles below.

I love neon colors because they stand out and are bright and inviting.

If you use it correctly, a poster board for one dollar can create up to 15-30 candles.

I only used a little to create these candles, but I used the poster board for other crafts.

The idea of making a Jack and Sally candle came to me after watching the movie.

I decided to create something that I can look at yet. Enjoy the light and safety.

I devised this idea for a Jack, Sally, and Oogie Boogie candle which the kids adore till this day.

I also created a cool DIY Halloween candle with bats, glow paint, and spider webs.

I enjoyed making this candle because Sharpie is fun, and kids can help you design it.

If you have an artist in the house, give them some poster boards or construction paper and some Sharpies and see what they create.
