As a Dominican, I celebrate two Mother’s Days with my mother and sister each year—the American and the Dominican.
The Dominican Mother’s Day falls on the last Sunday of May. Double surprises for me!
I am so grateful for and treasure my 14 years of Mother’s Day cards from my sons.
The crafts on this list remind me of when I was a little girl and would make my mom her Mother’s Day cards.
I had a great time in preschool, creating many things for my mom on Mother’s Day.
Remembering Those Who Are Gone
Mother’s Day is a time to celebrate the amazing moms in our lives. Grandmas, aunties, cousins, sisters, and anyone who is a mother is celebrated today.
I miss my grandmas, but I was too young to remember them.
It would have been nice to bond and make them Mother’s Day cards, too. I’m glad my children can make their grandmother’s Mother’s Day cards.
My deepest condolences to those who lost their mothers. Just know that an angel is on your shoulder protecting you. Sending warm hugs your way. <3

Supplies For Mother’s Day Crafts For Kids Projects
If you’re looking for a list of basic supplies needed for creating these wonderful crafts, rest assured they are below:
Finger Paint
- Finger paint works great for fingerprint art and handprints. It is one of the best Mother’s Day crafts tools for toddlers and preschoolers.
- I find it very useful to keep a bottle around, especially when toddlers want to create art for you.
Coffee Filters
- Who said coffee filters are just for coffee? Try making coffee filter flowers this Mother’s Day!
- Try this Mother’s Day crafts for kids with your children.
Crayola Art Markers
- Do you have a young child you fear will not comply with paint? Perhaps your child would like to use Picasso the house furniture instead of paper. (well, that’s no fun)
- You can try using markers from the Crayola Arts brand instead. I’ve been using these markers for decades, and they work beautifully.
- The markers are easy to remove from surfaces, and messy paint will not ruin your furniture.
- Better yet, take the activity outside so your toddlers and preschoolers can enjoy some paint time.
Crayons
- For as long as I can remember, crayons have always been a part of my childhood that I loved.
- Some kids were fond of eating them, but I didn’t have a taste for them. The good thing is that if your toddler decides it’s a snack, there will be no harm. (I still urge you to supervise your toddler and preschoolers with crayons.)
- Try using easy-to-hold crayons to help toddlers participate easily.
Coloring pencils
- Moreover, coloring pencils work great for older kids and help those with a keen sense of artistic skills.
- My son Anthony is 10, and he enjoys doing comics and loves his color pencils very much.

Pasta
- This makes an excellent Mother’s Day craft for all ages. Pasta is fun to craft because kids associate it with dinner time and spaghetti.
- This will be a great time for your toddler and other children to bond with you and become familiar with different pastas.
- It’s really fun to make pasta in different colors. You can make necklaces, bracelets, and much more using colorful pasta.
- It also makes for a fun Mother’s Day Craft for Preschoolers.
Printer Paper
- Additionally, printer paper has many uses, and I enjoy how versatile it can be when creating fun projects that your kids will enjoy.
- Use paper or construction paper, and let your little ones have fun being creative with you.
- Use paper to create awesome and easy Mother’s Day crafts for toddlers.
Construction paper
- Construction paper is a wonderful tool for helping little ones create things beyond their Wallace imagination.
- With this paper, you have multiple options, ranging from cutting, gluing, pasting, shredding, and using Mod Podge to making fantastic art that mothers will forever remember.
Photographs
- Why not create a unique memory using photographs of your children? A great idea is to take a picture of your child, paste it onto a flower, and plant it in a pot.
- Does that sound interesting to you? Read the list below to see this great idea.
Yarn
- Cats and kittens adore yarn, and so will your toddlers. I found a wonderful pom-pom flower project you will enjoy creating this Mother’s Day with your child.
- It is amazing what yarn can do with a bit of construction paper to help along the way.
Camera for Polaroid Projects
- In addition, I use a nifty little camera to photograph my son for Mother’s Day crafts for kids, and it works amazingly. I will happily share it below!
- It also comes with several frames, stickers, camera lenses, strings for hanging the photographers, extra polaroids, and more.
- Try using Polaroid photographs with your projects to make Mother’s Day crafts for toddlers and preschoolers memorable.
Pipe Cleaners
- I have used pipe cleaners for every season!
- I use shiny pipe cleaners and neon colors to make seasonal projects, from Halloween candles to Christmas projects.
- Pipe cleaners truly help to hold things together while providing a beautiful look.
Mugs
- Let Mom enjoy her favorite tea or coffee in a mug made just for her.
- Why not create something you can look at daily and remember what your little one made for you?
- Painted handprints are so cute. Fingerprints all over the mug always remind you you are loved, and you are someone’s favorite person.
Ceramic Plates
- Not only are plates used for dining and eating, but they are also used for cute handprints.
- If you enjoy a nice meal and love to clean your plate off, as I do, you will love to see a handprint on it to remind you of your fabulous little person this Mother’s Day.
- This Mother’s Day crafts for toddlers will make a great gift for Nana.
Straws
- Straws are not only for smoothies; they can also be used to create awesome art!
- Try using straws to create handprints on paper lilies with your child.
- Not only are they beautiful, but they are also a great reminder of how much we are loved.
Clay pots
- Whether you are gardening indoors or outdoors, try these fantastic clay pots this Mother’s Day.
- It’s amazing how similar a garden and a child can be.
- They begin as tiny seeds that grow into full trees, filling our lives with joy and occasional headaches that we can’t live without.
- This clay pot will forever remind you that you have a wonderful little human being who looks up to you and loves you.
Mod podge
- I can’t craft without this stuff. In fact, it’s simple, amazing, and makes your projects last for years.
- I made fall mason jar candle holders with this Mod Podge in 2016, and they still look like I made them yesterday!
- Use this glue to create a Mother’s Day craft for toddlers you’ll cherish for years.
Sharpies For Mother’s Day Crafts For Kids
- The number one thing I use when I want to create art with my son is my Sharpies. I use Sharpies for everything, and they are a wonderful tool for adults and older kids.
- I feel comfortable letting my ten-year-old use Sharpies under my supervision. He loves the sleekness of his designs when he uses these specific markers.
- Tip: Instead of Sharpies, use regular washable crayola art markers for toddlers and preschoolers.
Glitter
- Although glitter is a tad bit messy, it makes things pop, especially crafts.
- I find it easier to do this outside than inside the house.
- I have a foldable table that I often use for fun activities to do with Anthony.
Feel free to get creative and use things around your home! Try a scavenger hunt with your child to see what different items to craft for both of you.

13. BONUS: I love You Ceramic Heart for Mom and Grandma
In 2016, my sister and I decided to make my mom a beautiful heart with all of the grandchildren‘s names using Sharpie art for Mother’s Day.
This is a great craft to make with your older kids. You can add each of their names to the heart so you’ll always be reminded that you have their hearts forever.
Some of the kids were in preschool when we made this, but they made hearts with washable markers all over them that I traced with a pencil. My sister and I filled it in with a black outline using Sharpies.
We did one side where we did the Sharpie outline and had the kids fill it in with washable markers.
Our nicknames are Nini and Tiny; Tiny is my awesome big sister, and I’m still Nini (Knee-knee), which I love.
The kids in order from oldest to youngest: Nate, Nicky, and Nani are my sister’s kids, and Rudy and Baby Ax (Anthony) are mine.
We cherish every single one of them, for they belong to us all and the highest above who guides and protects them daily. Anthony was a toddler then but enjoyed making this craft with us.
He chose some of the colors for the other kids to use. He also made a beautiful self-portrait using paper, twine, and rocks for my sister, whom he calls La Titi (tee-tee) and is his favorite aunt.
The memories we’ve made will forever be etched in my heart, and we crafted this beautiful ceramic heart as a Mother’s Day gift.
My sister and I started working on this project on August 10th, 2016, and we completed it just in time for Mother’s Day in 2017. (The kids couldn’t decide on colors, so we added everyone’s favorite color!)
We worked on it gradually with the kids, and it was an awesome time. Now, it is a great memory. My mom loved it and has our names in this heart to remember how much her family loves her.
